Message from the president of the association

Dear Friends,

I am addressing you on behalf of the cultural association of Sri Lanka Sinhalese in France in the capacity of its new president.

This organization was founded in 1983, during the riots connected to the ethnic problem in Sri Lanka. In France, we lost three of our compatriots which was a tragic blow to us.
In a democratic world such barbaric acts are not acceptable.

It was these unfortunate incidents in 1983 which made us form a new association to fight ethnic discrimination and injustice in today world.

Our host country France is the nest of human rights and equality among all human beings.

We are far away from our motherland due to various reasons mainly the dirty war and it is necessary for us to unite and be strong in our own interest.

We must always try to make others know our culture and national heritage. We are a small country with a small population of just 20 million.

Our neighbor India has over one Billion People out of which the Tamil nadu state has 60 millions people. There are 77 million people speaking Tamil world wide. Our Sinhala language is on the path of disappearing.

We all Buddhist, Christian, Muslim and Hindu come from the Sinhala nation namely « sinha deepaya « Meaning the land of the Lion.

I earnestly extend an open invitation to join us and preserve our identity as Sri Lankan.

Ajith Ranasinghe
